Akara is a spin-out from one of Europe’s leading robotics labs at Trinity College Dublin (TCD). Our mission is to develop new technologies that can empower and support front-line workers in the healthcare industry. Akara offers an end-to-end disinfectant solution that can be deployed in hospitals, nursing homes and potentially endless other areas where harmful germs reside. The system uses a patent-protected, state-of-the-art disinfection robot known as ‘Violet’, which has emerged from nearly two years of collaboration with some of Ireland's leading microbiologists at Trinity College Dublin.
Akara are also creators of 'Stevie', a socially assistive robot developed to support frontline staff and residents in retirement community settings. In 2019, Stevie featured on the cover of Time magazine, and was later named by the outlet as one of its best inventions of 2019.
