The automated guided vehicle (or AGV as its known) plays a huge role within the transportation industry and as such, the future of these workaholic vehicles is monitored closely.
In case you didn’t know, AMRs are small, flatbed vehicles which have the ability to navigate their own course, using AI and 2D/3D vision to get around and avoid obstacles as they go. The cool thing is that they don’t just travel from A to B; they can choose their own route, given the circumstances of the job in hand.
The transportation industry is just one that is driving demand, as it realises the benefits of using such technologies. AGVs can reduce operational costs, can increase human worker safety and increase production times.
Although it is these three benefits which are driving the AGV market, it’s growth is being held somewhat back by the high cost of the initial investment and of swapping a manual system to an automated system.
As for where the AGV market is going to grow the most, although Europe will be a big player, most of the growth will come in the Asia Pacific region. Drivers here are the forecast growth of manufacturing and production plants, together with the increased expansion of manufacturing capacities, in countries such as China, Japan, and Australia.
